*** HAPPY BLOCKS DX ***

LOADING:

*** Disk ***

Insert disk into your drive (Or use .D64 image on custom devices). Type in

LOAD "*",8

After loading has finished type in RUN. Please ensure you keep your disk inside the disk drive, and your disk remains unprotected. This is because this game consists of a hi score saver.

If you wish to initialise the high scores at any time. Simply remove the high score table file from the disk drive by typing in BASIC:

OPEN 15,8,15:PRINT#15,"S:HISCORES.HB",CLOSE 15

Then, load and run the main game again, which will write a brand new hi score table.

*** Tape ***

Insert tape, ensure it is at correct position (or use .tap image on custom devices). Press SHIFT and RUN/STOP. Press play on tape, and you're ready to go. Should loading problems occur, the border in the tape loader will turn red and the tape deck will stop. DO NOT RESET YOUR MACHINE, you don't need to. Simply rewind a little then press play on tape if this problem occurs. If still constant, then check your tape deck. Some tape loaders rely on head alignment.

The tape version has no hi-score saver implemented, but the game still has a hi score table.

HAPPY BLOCKS DX A CELEBRATION OF A TAPE LOADER GAME

Back in time, say 2011 (If I recall correctly). The game Happy Blocks was originally formed as a tape loader game on many TND games and contributor's releases. Now Happy Blocks back by special request, this time as a full game, in its full and blazing glory. The game now features:

- Intro+Front end presentation
- Enhanced graphics and background animation
- Animated sprites with assorted characters
- Digi sampling (Recorded and created by the author, not royalty free existing samples)
- Pure challenging game play.

HOW TO PLAY:

For those of you who are not familar with Happy Blocks This was a simple score attack game in which you had to dodge as many nasty blocks as possible until a tape finished loading the game. Happy Blocks DX works exactly the same way, but it is much more faster and funnier than before.

You start the game with HAPPY, a smiling and cheerful blue block at the bottom of the game screen. At the top of the screen, a set of 3 nasty blocks will fall. The characters are Groucho, who is a bit of a miserable sod, Razz, who is pretty rude, Cyclops, who is spying on you and Cool, who is, rather cool, unless his shades are removed. Between each set of 3 nasty blocks is a gap. You must help Happy locate and squeeze through that tight gap before he gets caught and tossed into oblivion. Each set of nasty blocks and gap will appear randomly.

This game isn't just all about dodging the nasty blocks, but also for building up your score. For each set of nasty blocks you sqeeze past, you will get 100 points. What if you wanted to boost your score even more and gain more points and possibility of a really high score? This is where the boost feature takes place. If you activate one of those, while the nasty blocks are moving, you will score extra points, according to the speed. Also, for every 20 nasty blocks passed, you'll be awarded 5 bonus turbo boost features. Once you have reached the fastest speed. Try to survive for as long as you can, but that will be really hard work :)

Controls

Happy is controlled by using a joystick plugged into port 2. Left / Right are the directions Happy can move. Only by quick taps as holding the joystick constantly is pretty much useless :).Pressing FIRE on the joystick will activate turbo boost should you have one or more in your possession.

How long can Happy survive before plummeting off the game screen and you lose the game? Can you beat your own or friends high scores? Why not give it a go, have fun with this party game.

This game is BEST played on a standard C64 joystick, VICE (Joystick Keys). Although the game works on theC64 Mini be warned that this game could be a joystick breaker! So play carefully :) ...
